Making Merry Cherry Window

Location

Role

Designer, Sculptor, Fabricator, Faux Finisher

Project type

Window Display

Date

Holiday 2023

This patisserie inspired display was the 2023 holiday window for Anthropologie. Featuring jewel box tones these windows made you feel like you were stepping into a luxurious upscale European candy store.
Each cherry was hand carved from foam, hard coated and painted to resemble a variety of cherries both realistic and abstracted : plain, chocolate dipped, foil covered, sequin encrusted, red and pink.
One of the main challenges in this window across the company was budget. Both the foam spec'd out and the material tested for harcoated were beyond most stores budgets; not to mention the quantities needed were actually twice of that listed. I was able to come up with my own budget friendly version of the hard coat for the foam (to ensure the cherries weren't easy dented) as well as getting a lower cost foam option. The sequins needed for the "disco" cherries were also way beyond budget limitations. I was able to source out a sequin alternative (confetti) that further saved on budget.
I was able to guide other display artist with tips and tricks on foam carving as well. I love to use tools that are not necessarily meant for the purpose you use them for. In this case, curry combs were used to carve the cherries. Curry combs are normally use to groom horses.
