CNC Horse Sculpture
Project type
Outdoor Sculpture
Role
Sculptor and Mill operator
Local Artist Leon Brurkowski came to us with an artist maquette of a horse sculpture that he was enlarged. The sculpture was to be a permanent installation at a local high school (the horse was the schools mascot).
First the artist’s model was scanned with a 3D scanner. The maquette was cut in some areas so the scanner could reach undercuts.
After scanning, all parts were cleaned up in Magics. The scans were enlarged and cut into smaller pieces in Magics to facilitate CNC foam cutting.
In total the horse was cut into 8 pieces (some of the legs were cut into 2 parts due to the angle of the knee bend).
All parts were machined on a FROG Mill CNC 4 axis machine. After machining the parts were assembled and fine detail was sculpted back in by the artist. The horse
was coated with a hard polyurea shell and painted to resemble a bronze cast sculpture.
